Audra McDonald's artistic talent is unparalleled in the range and variety of her work in her roles as a performer, singer and actor. A record-breaking winner of 6 Tony Awards two Grammy Awards as well as the Emmy Award in 2015 she was named one of Times magazine's top 100 influential people and received the National Medal for Arts --America's highest honor for achievement in the arts--from the President Barack Obama. She is equally at home in film, television and Broadway. Her beautiful soprano can make her appear effortless on the stage. As well as her theatrical performance, she enjoys an active career as a musician and recording artist. She has a regular performance schedule in some of the top venues around the world. She was born into a musical family. McDonald lived living in Fresno California and received her traditional vocal education at the New York's Juilliard School. Her first Tony Award in 1994 for the top performance of an Actress in a musical, Carousel which was staged at Lincoln Center Theater. Through the next four-year period She was honored with two more Tony Awards as a featured actor for her performances on Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998) which gave her three Tony Awards at the age just 30. She received her fourth Tony in 2004 when she starred alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun as well as in 2012. In 2012 she was awarded five Tony Awards, and she was the first time in the category of leading actress, for her role as Porgy and Bess in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess as the title role. In 2014 she made Broadway history, becoming one of the Tony Awards most decorated performer when she won six awards in the role of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role that also served as the basis for her Olivier Award nomination 2017 debut on London's West End. Not only did she set records for the amount of honors an actor has won, she was also the first person ever to win every category. McDonald's theater credits also include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2005) 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nacht (2009) The Twelfth Night was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical sensation from 1921 & Everything That Followed (2017) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald was first introduced to the public via television as a dramatic actress in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say The Delany Sisters first 100 years. In 1999, she appeared with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. After receiving her debut Emmy nomination for her performance in the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer prize-winning play Wit, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned on television network in 2003 on the drama about politics Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and featuring Josh Brolin. She joined in the ensemble of the show on WB called The Bedford Diaries and over the course of the season, she was the role of a regular on NBC's TV show Kidnapped. McDonald earned her 4th Emmy nomination in her role in HBO's special film of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in 2016. The Bite is a drama with six seasons based around the spread of a disease, and produced with Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. She appeared alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. She first appeared on the show as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's civil drama The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald took on the character (now being dubbed Liz Reddick) as a regular in the season premiere of The Good Fight on Paramount+ and received three Critics Choice Award nominations for her role. She guest stars in Julian Fellowes's historical drama The Gilded Age.
